Getting to know Jesus

Choose a question to explore the answer.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Christians believe he came into the world, revealed God’s love, died for our sins and rose again. He invites us to know and follow him.

READ: John 1:14; John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

Why did Jesus die on the cross?

Sin separates humanity from God. Jesus gave his life for us so that through him we can receive forgiveness and be reconciled to God. The cross shows the depth of God’s love.

READ: Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:18–19

Did Jesus rise from the dead, and why does it matter?

Christians believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. His resurrection is central to our faith and gives us hope of new and eternal life in him.

READ: Luke 24:5–7; 1 Corinthians 15:20–22

What does it mean to be saved or born again?

To be saved is to receive God’s gift of forgiveness and new life through faith in Jesus. Being born again describes the new spiritual life God gives; it is not something we earn by being good enough.

READ: John 3:3–6; Ephesians 2:8–9

How can I begin a relationship with Jesus?

Come to God honestly. Believe in Jesus, turn toward him and put your trust in him. You can speak to him in your own words; there is no special formula. We would be glad to talk and pray with you.

READ: Romans 10:9–10; John 1:12

Do I need to have my life together before coming to God?

No. You can come to God as you are. His grace meets us in our need and helps us grow and change as we follow Jesus.

READ: Matthew 11:28; Ephesians 2:8–10
